I rewatched ‘The Big Short‘ today. It is much better the second time.
It’s uncanny how much fraud existed at the banks and brokers. No wonder this fintech boom is so relentless and wild.
I sent that tweet out yesterday as I finished watching the movie and it went pretty viral.
That era, the banks, the money, the fraud, the continued fraud, the lack of perp walks and cleanup, the bailout….so much to just shake your head about and also appreciate about how well the movie covered and explained the global financial crisis.
I had forgotten Brad Pitt was in the movie and he killed at as Ben Rickert. Everyone should have a trading mentor like him!
Interesting too that Ben was wearing a mask in the movie as he travelled back in 2007:
I am but a small cog in the financial machine making angel investments in simple cap tables (at least when we build them) of software and e-commerce startups so I don’t really think too hard about how the next crash will start.
The governments around the world definitely picked up the baton of the banks so I won’t begin to guess.
Everything does seem to be speeding up though so I will continue to go a little slower.
