You’ll hear investors talk about the Fed taking away the punch bowl as a metaphor for how increasing rates can cause stocks to fall and even a market crash. Well last week the Fed not only took the punch bowl from the party but turned on the lights. Stocks in the Nasdaq fell more than 4.5% and seven of the 11 stock sectors closed negative.
But is it the beginning of a stock market crash or an opportunity to buy the dip in cheap stocks? The answer may actually be both. While I don’t think we get a full market crash of 20% or more this year, stock prices could continue to fall and we can’t rule out a bear market this year or next. The thing is, it can still be a great time to invest and in fact can be the best time to invest. If you had invested at the height of the dot-com bubble, it would have taken 14 years to get your money back. Investing a little each month though, even as stock prices are falling, would have given you a 72% return instead of breaking even over that period.
So just because stock prices are crashing, don’t think you need to stop investing. Keep watching the stock market news and trends I’ll talk about in this livestream and you WILL make money!
