I share with you three of the best penny stocks to buy now – obesity stocks, Novo Nordisk (NVO), Eli Lilly (LLY), AstraZeneca plc (AZN) with huge catalysts for 2023 making them strong pharmaceutical stocks for 2023.
About 70 per cent of adults in the US and 64 per cent in the UK are obese or overweight, according to the FDA and the House of Commons library and this contributes to some of the most common causes of death, such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
The World Health Organization which describes obesity as a "rising epidemic" and estimates that more than 1 billion adults globally will be living with obesity in 2030. And the gems, I have for you today have FDA approved products to tackle obesity. And what really makes this opportunity and win win win is that, demand is significantly outstripping supply and these big players can’t make enough of the products. So a real opportunity here which is backed by tangible consumer demand driven by healthier life styles and the desire to look great from losing weight. Clearly something we can all connect to.
Novo Nordisk’s results have been impressive this year with sales of Wegovy totaling ($3 billion) and rising an incredible 481% during the first nine months of 2023. Ozempic is also growing at a fast rate of 53% and its sales are even higher, totaling ($9.2 billion). Overall, Novo Nordisk’s total revenue over the first three quarters of 2023 is up 29% while profits have risen at an even higher rate of 47% and so needless to say how good this growth has translated into their financials.
Novo Nordis is also about to get real competition. That’s because Eli Lily’s Tirzepatide will compete head on with Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy, which has come to dominate the market for weight-loss and diabetes management drugs with a 54.3 per cent global market share. Novo Nordisk has struggled to meet the demand for Wegovy, leaving many patients facing supply issues that have interrupted their treatment for a month at a time in some cases
